Hi Laura,

I’m really gutted. I’m starting to lose my hair and thin out. I won’t lie, it’s not exactly a surprise! My whole family have had similar problems at one point or another.

The problem is, that I have quite bad marks on my head. I would just shave my head and be done with it, but I know I’ll look like something from the X-men!

My mates have started taking the piss by calling me Vin Diesel and Harry Hill. I laugh along because I don’t want them to see it gets to me, but I hate it. It really gets to me and I stay awake at night worrying about it. I know that worrying makes matters worse, but what can I actually do?

I’ve seen those hair transplant treatments that Shane Warne advertises, but I can’t really afford it. What other choices do I have?

Thanks for your email. I must admit, that if you looked like Vin Diesel I wouldn’t complain!

But in all seriousness, 65% of men are worried about hair loss and this does nothing to help. However, there are several things you can do to help slow the process and help promote hair growth.

We have an article available on our site solely about this subject for you to see – click here to read it.

One of the main bits of advice I can give you is to make sure you are healthy. The more healthy you are, the more healthy your hair is. A little known fact is that if you massage your hair for a few minutes a day after washing, you will help to stimulate the hair follicles and give them a small burst of growth.

There are also a selection of products that you can buy to help promote both hair growth, or to subsidise the effect of hair loss. You can see a selection of hair loss and thinning products available through moderngrooming.

On a more personal note, you have two real choices about how to handle your friends. You can either come clean and tell them the problem, or you can laugh along with it. Sometimes seeing the funny side of the problem is the best way to avoid it. I personally have a unsightly problem too, but whereas I used to dream of being able to afford plastic surgery, I know just enjoy it because it’s a part of me and it makes me unique.

If you want to get any advice on specific products and techniques, don’t hesitate to email us back and we’ll try and guide you through as best we can.
