Male pubic hair

If you are planning on shaving your hair then it is advisable to trim the hair down to a shorter length first and then use a good foam or gel to aid the shaving. Depending on how thick your pubic hair is, you may need to have a few new razor blades on standby as the coarse hair can blunt the blades quite quickly and using a blunt razor to shave can cause ingrown hairs (see article on shaving). After shaving this delicate area can be particularly sensitive so it may be a good idea to apply some un-perfumed soothing lotion such as one designed for baby’s skin. I wouldn’t recommend the use of a hair growth inhibitor lotion in this area as it can cause irritation and the hair is usually too thick to be affected anyway.

If you are going to continually shave this area then it is advisable to wait for a few days between each shave or again, ingrown hairs may occur if shaving hair which is too short. Re-growth may fee a bit stubbly and uncomfortable so it may be advisable to wear a more close fitting stretchy cotton mix of pant rather than the loose fitting 100% cotton type with can catch and snag.

Waxing this area should only be done by a trained professional in a salon environment at you could cause serious irritation and infection of this sensitive area.

Hair removing cream is another good option if you want the results to last longer than shaving but you don’t want to have the pain of waxing. There are various products on the market but make sure you get one for this particular area and not one designed for ladies legs! Always follow the instructions on the pack to avoid any painful problems!

If your pubic hair is starting to loose its colour or go slightly grey but you don’t want to remove the hair then restoring the colour is the easiest option. Don’t use a hair dye for use on head hair as this could not only turn your pubic hair a funny colour like green or orange, but it could cause a severe reaction such as itching or burning and your pubic hair could fall out!

There are a few products on the market which are specifically for dying pubic hair.
If you are planning to trim the hair then use a good sharp pair of scissors or invest in a specific pubic hair trimmer. These are mainly marketed at women as bikini line trimmers but they will also work on male pubic hair.
