Hands
Hands can be one of the first places that start to show your age. Exposed to all the elements of weather and used to work everyday, wrinkles, discolouration and rough skin can all be problems. To try and counteract this, use hand washes or soaps (product) that moisturise rather than dry the skin.
Any time your hands get wet or start to feel dry and tight, apply a good hand cream or lotion that is made to target particular problem such as :-
• Repairing/Healing – intensively conditions to treat chapped
or split skin on hands and around nails.
• Refreshing – invigorates and cools tired or sore hands.
• Soothing – calms and balances dry, tight or sore skin.
• Moisturising/Conditioning – replaces lost moisture and
minerals from exposure to extreme temperature changes and dry or wet
conditions.
• Anti-aging – helps to prevent and rectify first signs of
aging on hands such as wrinkles, discolouration and damaged skin.
Handcare products - Molten brown lotion, Aesop Aromatique Balm.
Nails
The golden rule when cutting nails be it finger nails or toe nails is to always cut straight across the top using clippers or sharp scissors to avoid ingrown nails which can be very painful and in some cases need surgery to rectify.
Clippers (Uomo - nail clippers) are usually better than scissors for hard nails and in general they give a neater and more accurate cut.
If you find you have brittle, weak or flaky nails then try rubbing in nail oil daily to strengthen and heal (L'Occitane Nail and Cuticle Cream) and a cuticle pen (Uomo - cuticle pen)is also a good idea as this is where your nail goes from and so it is important to keep this healthy. The pen can help to prevent tears in the cuticle and those painful splits that can appear in the skin at the side of the nails.
If rough splits appear on the nail or occur after cutting then use a nail file to eliminate scratchy splints (Uomo - nail file) as well as enhancing shine and texture if you select a file with this option (Uomo - nail polish).
A grooming kit will encapsulate some of these products and can include extras such as tweezers and cuticle clippers.
Some hand creams can also be rubbed into the nail to promote healthy growth and strength but if your nails are a particular problem area then you may need to buy a specific nail cream (product) or cuticle cream if your cuticles are particularly hard and grown thickly over the nail base (product)
Feet
If your feet show signs of particularly dry skin then try rubbing
in a foot lotion or cream at least once a day (REN
- foot lotion). Again, there are creams which also will work on
the nail area especially if you find you have very hard or brittle toenails
that are hard to cut.
For hard spots of skin use a pumice stone to rub away the hard layers and these are available from most chemists.
If foot odour is a problem then use odour eater insoles and try washing and rubbing your feet with products that have been made with strong scents such as peppermint to help disguise any nasty whiffs .
